Tasks:
- Pilot
Forest Inventory -
Develop a current forest stand
type map from satellite data for a representative, multi-county
area of the state, augment with photo and ground inventory plots
to generate layers showing volume and distribution by timber type
and ownership, and design a system that would combine spatial and
resource data components into a visual on-line system that would
allow assessment of forest productivity for any user-defined
area.
New Imaging Systems -
Evaluate LIDAR, digital frame camera, and CARTERRA
images for forest inventory utility, determine economic
feasibility of their use compared to traditional means, and
integrate their data analyses into an automated aerial stand
inventory and monitoring system.
Wildlife
Habitat Management - Use remote sensing to
characterize the impact of agricultural field border management
practices on wildlife habitat, weed and pest populations, and
crop yield characteristics.
